The first defining feature of this elite knife is its blade, which is crafted from Crucible's own CPM® MagnaCut® powder metallurgy stainless steel. Conceived by Larrin Thomas, a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, MagnaCut challenges traditional stainless steel chemistry by reducing the amount of chromium in the steel to a precise range while adding vanadium and niobium. The result is a state-of-the-art blade steel that offers an exceptional balance of edge retention, toughness, and extreme corrosion resistance. Full-flat ground for optimal edge geometry, the blade of this knife takes full advantage of these properties to deliver unparalleled cutting performance. It also features a handsome black Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating that proudly showcases a laser-engraved Crucible Industries logo.
Not to be outdone, the handle scales of this Exclusive knife are crafted from peel-ply-textured G-10 featuring alternating red and black layers. Spyderco’s signature Caribbean Bi-Directional Texture™ pattern is painstakingly machined into the scales' red surface layer, revealing the underlying black layer and creating a high-visibility, color-contrasting, non-slip pattern. To complement its DLC-coated blade, the knife’s nested stainless steel liners, fully configurable four-position pocket clip, and other hardware also feature matching black coatings. All other features of this knife are faithfully consistent with the time-tested Para Military 2 platform, including its signature Compression Lock® mechanism and its lightweight, easily cleaned, open-backed construction style.
